The 7 Lazy P takes great pride in all details of the operation.  One of the areas of detail is all the pack and stock equipment.  Dusty builds our pack saddles, head stalls, round reins, mule halters, saw scabbards and hobbles and is always striving to create new items that are useful, functional, and above all else, made with the highest quality and detail.  Our gear is not fancy, but is definitely heirloom quality.  It is all made by a packer for packers and created out of a lifetime of knowledge and ease of use.

Premium Pack Saddles

Ultra-high quality Decker Pack Saddle. Herman Oak harness leather and the very best hardware covering a standard configuration Ray Holes tree. All straps are single groove creased, then hand edged and burnished for a classy, finished product. Breast collar and britchen are chap leather lined and rolled over with a half round pinked edge that sets these saddles apart from cookie cutter farm store saddles. The half breed is our own design and far superior to boards. The heavy leather panel on the exterior and a 3/8’ closed cell foam pad in the pocket give your stock the comfort they deserve. We will never put a saddle with boards on one of our mules ever, these are that much better. The rigging straps come to a 3.5″ flat brass ring. This spreads the pressure better and looks sharp. We finish them out with a 28″ 100% mohair cinch that we order special. They are an open strand cinch that we put our own canvas center bar in. The canvas stays smooth and cleaner than braided bars. Brass rings in the cinch match the saddle hardware.

Packable Saws

Fiskars saws are great packable saws. Good quality for the price and come with a custom 7 Lazy P leather sheath. This is what the 7 Lazy P crew uses.

In typical Dusty fashion…. always extra details….. the sheath is precisely tapered to fit the saw so it is easy to remove from the sheath, yet fits snug enough so there is no need for a security strap to keep it in place. The sheaths come with a single strap or a double strap to attach on your saddle under your stirrup fender. Dusty prefers the single strap to attach to his saddle.

Mule Halters

After years of leading mules in the Bob Marshall Wilderness, Dusty has created a modified mule halter.  Our mule halters have the traditional leather nose band and leather tug from the side, but to lighten up the halters, we have used cord instead of the heavy leather.  These are so much lighter on the mule’s head and very easy to put on and take off, even if your mule has sensitive ears.

Head Stalls

Quality head stalls that will last.  Our headstalls have a brow bank and easily adjust on the sides.  We can include one of our round reins that are light weight and made to easily store over the saddle horn.

Hobbles

Every mountain horse user should consider a pair of hobbles to have along.  Dusty makes great quality hobbles of a traditional design.
