The 7 Lazy P stock are an integral part of the operation. Without them, traditional backcountry trips would not be possible. The making of a good mountain horse or mule takes a lot of time, knowledge and dedication and it all starts with a good minded individual. Our string of horses and mules is a variety of purchased and raised. They all have different personalities. We take this into consideration when matching you to your horse for the trip.
Time
It takes years to develop a great mountain horse or mule. Creating a solid foundation with the young stock is vital to their being a successful part of our operation. From imprinting babies to reworking a purchased horse or mule, there is a lot involved in creating the ultimate mountain horse or mule.
Knowledge
Dusty & Danelle both grew up with horses and have continued to build their natural horsemanship skills by learning from skilled horseman such as Bryan Neubert, Tom Dorrance and Ray Hunt. You will see a sign above our tack shed that says, “The horse is never wrong.” This statement seems so simple, yet is very deep in it’s meaning. When you ride with us, you will grow to understand this.
Dedication
Raising and making good horses and mules is similar to raising good kids. Dedication, determination, and discipline are continually used to mold good behavior. Every horse or mule is different so good stockmanship skills involve continual modification to find what works to advance each individual horse or mule. We are dedicated to developing good stock and to helping the crew grow into good stockmen/women and above all, good individuals. We find working with horses, mules, and young people very rewarding.
We often use the phrase, anything worthwhile is never easy. Persistence and integrity are the core of our operation.
We love all of our stock and the individuals they are. We look forward to matching you to one of our seasoned horses.
