Bob Marshall Wilderness

The Bob Marshall Wilderness has been known for many years as the place where the rifle hunter may experience elk hunting during the rut.  The early season always begins on September 15th each year. Traditional, remote pack-in hunts are the essence of Montana elk hunting.

Your hunt begins at the 7 Lazy P lodge. We will assemble your gear into mule loads along with all the other cargo required for the hunt. In the morning after breakfast we will get you acquainted with your horse while the packers are loading the mules. After a thorough horsemanship briefing, we will start of the trail taking us over the Continental Divide and down into our camp for the hunt. Hunts are conducted in HD 151.

Once in camp, you can expect comfortable accommodations in wall tents with cots, pads and wood stove for heat. The hub of camp is the spacious cook tent. This is the dining and social area where you can expect excellent fare served hot and plentiful.

Hunting may be done on foot out of camp, or using horses to extend our range to other drainages. Guides will use every combination of hunting tactics to increase your chance of success. Calling will be used to locate and hopefully entice a bull into range. Glassing along with spot and stalk methods can work well also.

Hunters participating in our wilderness hunts must not weigh in excess of 250# for our horse’s sake and should be in good physical condition to increase the success of the hunt.
